There are a large number of laptops which connect to wireless. Laptops are available to loan to University of Sheffield students for free and to be used within the library. They cannot be taken out of the building.

  • Laptop loans for up to 8 hours during staffed hours at Western bank Library and Health Sciences Library Royal Hallamshire Hospital.  They are a highly used resource so it is advised to book. Bookings can be made up to 2 days in advance through the Resource Bookings facility in MUSE.  You will need to collect and return your laptop from the information desks.
  • 24 hour self service laptops - at the Information Commons in the self-service area on the ground floor and The Diamond on the 4th floor.  The laptops are available 24 hours a day, for use in the building only, on a first-come first-serve basis - there is no need to book in advance. The laptops connect to the eduroam wifi and can be used anywhere in the building.

How to borrow a laptop

How to return a laptop

You will need your U-card and PIN number to use the service. It takes up one slot on your library account, so if you are maxed out on books you won’t be able to use the service.

Important !!  - when you return a laptop you need to plug the charger cable back in, as this is how the system recognises it has been returned. If you don’t plug it back in the laptop will remain on your account.

Chat is available during staffed hours.
