If registering to use Mendeley it is advisable to use a personal email address to create your account.

There are a couple of reasons for this. Firstly, you can carry on accessing and using your Mendeley account after you have graduated, but your University of Sheffield email address will become inactive once you have graduated.

Secondly, there have been problems accessing the desktop version of Mendeley for the first time when registered for an account with a University email address. This has been prompting the error message, "It looks like you are trying to sign in using your institution’s Shibboleth account". If this error message occurs, you can sign in to Mendeley online and change your email address to a personal account, then try accessing the desktop version again. To change your email address, sign in to Mendeley, then click on your name in the top right-hand corner, and select 'Settings'.
