StarPlus and most academic databases have a citation tool. They quickly generate a reference for an item in different referencing styles. They can be useful to see an example citation for familiarity, or to quickly check one element of a citation, for example, the publisher or year of publication.

Generated citations may not always be 100% accurate and should be used as a guide or starting point, you need to carefully check all references before including them in your work. Always refer to your departmental referencing style guide for more in-depth guidance and examples.
You can access the citation tool in StarPlus by clicking on the title of the item, then selecting the citation icon from the Send to menu:
The available styles are:

  • Harvard - UoS (Cite Them Right)
  • AIP
  • APA (6th & 7th editions)
  • IEEE
  • MHRA
  • MLA (7th & 8th editions)
  • OSCOLA
  • Vancouver
