Q. EndNote Toolbar in Word

In order to insert citations into your paper you will need to have the EndNote toolbar available in Word.

In most cases, when you install EndNote 21 on your computer the toolbar will appear in Word as a normal part of the installation.

If the toolbar does not appear or it has vanished you will need to activate it. This process is different depending on the versions of Word and EndNote you are using, but these are the instructions for most Windows.

1. Browse to the EndNote X7 or X8 or X9 or 20 or 21 Program Files folder, e.g.

EndNote 21: C:\Program Files (x86)\EndNote 21\

2. Run the "Configure EndNote.exe" utility.
3. Make sure "Configure EndNote components" is selected and click Next.
4. Select Cite While You Write add-in for Microsoft Office and click Next.
5. Click Finish.
