Ebooks are hosted on a variety of platforms which have different tools and features available. We recommend that you read online if the service allows, rather than download to your PC.

For example….

  • in Proquest Ebook Central, click Read Online to access the ebook.
  • This also allows you to use tools such as adding notes, highlighting text, and bookmarking pages which are saved in the Annotations tab for when you next use the ebook.
  • … in Oxford Scholarship Online you can start reading online straight away….
  • ….and in the Directory of Open Access Books you can access the pdf of the ebook.
  • For EBSCOHost books, please see this FAQ for more information.

Watch our video Using ebooks effectively: useful tools to find out how to use the many tools available.

When planning your reading, bear in mind that some ebooks may have limits to the number of users that can access them simultaneously (called concurrent user limits).

You may need to "request" an ebook if the concurrent user limit has been reached. If so, follow the instructions to do this and you will be notified when the book is made available.

If we do not have a book you require, please submit our Library Resource Recommendation Form, and we will do our best to get it for you.
