ProQuest Ebook Central is transitioning away from Adobe Digital Editions, and have released their own dedicated ereader app, the Ebook Central Reader App.

  • ProQuest's full-book downloads (PDFs and EPUBs) will now only open in the new Ebook Central Reader App. Chapters remain available as standalone PDFs and DRM-free titles are exempt.

This is available on University managed desktops via the Software Center or for personal devices from the Ebook Central Reader App

As a registered university member, accessing this content via Starplus means you already have an Ebook Central profile. You simply need to register your devices to use the app.

Locate your chosen title via Starplus and click through to the ProQuest Ebook Central platform. Click the 'Download' option on the eBook page.

  • Please note: Some ProQuest content may be "Read Online" only and will not feature a download button. Where full downloads are available, you can often choose your preference between PDF and EPUB formats.

Select your preferred format and choose your download duration from the dropdown menu.

If you haven't used the app before, click 'Continue' when prompted to download the software. On the following screen, a 7-digit registration code will appear. Copy this code (it remains valid for 48 hours).

  • You can register up to 6 personal devices to your account. You can view or remove old devices at any time in the platform under 'Manage Devices'.

Open the Ebook Central Reader App on your device. You will be immediately prompted to enter your 7-digit code to link your account.

Once authorised, the book will appear in the 'All Books' section of your app library, ready to download and read offline. You can also browse and download further titles directly within the app.
